FAQ

  • What should I wear during a Maiko dinner experience?
There is no strict dress code, so casual attire is acceptable for the Maiko Experience Dinner. Ideally, you should wear comfortable clothes that allow you to sit on the floor, as the event takes place in a traditional tatami room. Since we expect you will be sightseeing in the city during the day, you are welcome to come in comfortable clothing. We encourage everyone to wear comfortable clothing to enhance your enjoyment of this cultural experience.
  • What is the difference between a Maiko and a Geisha?
Maiko is an apprentice Geisha, typically younger, and still in training. Maiko are known for their elaborate hairstyles, colorful kimonos, and youthful appearance, whereas Geishas are fully trained and often wear more subdued attire. In our Maiko Ozashiki Experience, you will interact with a Maiko, enjoying her traditional dance performance and conversation.
  • How do I reserve the Maiko experience in Kyoto?
Reserving a maiko experience is easy and simple. First, please fill in the request form with your desired dates and number of people and submit it. We will then email you back with more detailed information, including pricing and cancellation policy. After confirmation, we will arrange the maiko and venue. Payment will be made online by credit card, and your reservation will be confirmed after the arrangements are completed.
  • Can I take photos during the Maiko performance?
Yes, you are welcome to take photos during the Maiko performance. However, please be respectful of the performance and avoid using flash photography, as it may distract the Maiko. Our interpreter-guide will assist in capturing memorable moments if needed.
  • How long does the Maiko experience last?
The Maiko experience typically lasts about two hours. This includes a one-hour and 45-minute interaction with the Maiko, during which you will enjoy a traditional course meal, all-you-can-drink beverages, and the Maiko’s performance.
  • Are the Maiko experiences conducted in English?
Yes, our Maiko experiences are conducted in English. An interpreter-guide, fluent in both English and Japanese, will accompany your group to ensure you fully understand and appreciate the cultural nuances of the experience. We also provide support via email in English leading up to your reservation.
  • What is included in the Maiko dinner package?
The Maiko dinner package includes a private room, a traditional Japanese course meal, all-you-can-drink beverages (including alcohol), the Maiko’s performance, and the services of an interpreter-guide. All taxes and tips are also included in the package price, so there are no additional charges.
  • Can I request specific Maiko for my experience?
While we strive to accommodate special requests, the availability of specific Maiko cannot always be guaranteed. Maiko arrangements can take one to two weeks, and during high tourism seasons, it may take longer. We recommend booking as early as possible and communicating any specific requests when making your reservation.
  • How early should I book a Maiko experience to secure a spot?
We recommend booking your Maiko experience at least one to two months in advance, especially if you plan to visit during the high season (March-April or September-November). This allows ample time to secure both the venue and Maiko for your desired date, ensuring a smooth and memorable experience.
  • Can I watch only the performance?
No, it is not possible to view just the dance performance. Our experience is designed to offer a comprehensive cultural immersion, which includes both the traditional Maiko performance and a carefully curated dinner. The dance is an integral part of the dining experience, providing context and ambiance that enhances the overall appreciation of Maiko's art. We believe that combining the performance with the meal offers a richer and more fulfilling cultural experience.
  • Is it possible to take only a photo session with a Maiko?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to take just a photo with a Maiko without participating in the full experience. Our service is designed to offer guests a complete cultural experience, which includes interacting with the Maiko during dinner and the performance. This allows guests to fully appreciate the unique artistry and tradition that Maiko represents. Photo opportunities are provided as part of the experience, ensuring you have lasting memories of your time with the Maiko.
  • Is there table seating available?
Our dining experience is traditionally Japanese, which means that seating is provided on tatami mats in a Japanese-style room. This setting offers an authentic atmosphere that enhances the cultural experience. However, if you have specific needs or require table seating due to physical limitations or personal preferences, please contact us in advance. We strive to accommodate all guests as much as possible to ensure comfort and enjoyment.

If you need interpretation services, please contact us in advance so we can arrange for a qualified interpreter to be present during your experience. There may be an additional fee for this service, depending on the language and availability of interpreters.
